Well, I figured out what my problem was. In my dsm.opt file I hardcode the
path to my dsmerror and dsmsched logs. We put them at C:\Program
Files\Tivoli\TSM instead of letting them go to the \baclient\ folder. Well,
when I started the client for the image itself it was writing the log files to
the local C:\ thus stopping TSM from being able to get a lock on it.

Luc, can you check to see if this might have also been your problem.
Commenting out the dsmsched and dsmerror lines in my dsm.opt is all I had to do
to get things working. Make sure you check for tracefile as well.

Even though this was really my own fault I'd still like to respectully request
that a small note be made in the WinPE doc. I don't want to open up the thread
about who should be reading it and what their level of expertise should be. I
agree with IBM's stance on that. Still, I'd like to request a note just the
same.

While I'm requesting updates to the doc nother thing that I have found quite
usefull with both these procedures and ASR is to first use regedit to determine
what value is changed when setting your NIC to 100 Full. This way prior to
performing a backup or restore in WinPE or restore with ASR I first run regedit
and set the value from Auto Auto to 100 Full. As you can image this greatly
speeds up the time for recovery when using 10/100 NIC's. As an example my IBM
Nefinity Ethernet card has a string value called "SpeedDuplex" that when set to
0 is Auto Auto and when set to 4 is 100 Full.

Thanks, Kyle

I had run chkdsk on an ealier run and that didn't change the results. I believe
that I saw that as a suggestion in the doc. In my next try I'll make sure to
try it again just to be sure.

It may be a few days before I can get back into the lab because we are
prepareing for our next disaster test. I do plan on getting the service trace
done. I just didn't want you to think I was giving up when you didn't hear back
from me for a few days.

Thanks again.

Kyle,

Thanks for including the detailed information. I like to see things in
full context, which is why I ask for that level of detail.

Off-hand I do not have an immediate solution for this. One thing to try is
to use chkdsk to see if there are any inconsistencies on the volume; then
see if fixing those inconsistencies makes any difference.

If that doesn't yield anything, then can you collect a SERVICE trace of
the failing restore command and send it in with your other PMR doc (I see
you've got a PMR open for this, which is good! :-)

Andy

The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked.
The command line is your friend.
"Good enough" is the enemy of excellence.
