Many of the answers here come from a general
understanding of SQL Server backup/restore strategy.

As far as a Data Protection for SQL impact, you mentioned
the main ones, i.e. storage and network bandwidth savings
by using a full + differential strategy.
Also, depending how the data is stored, i.e. on tapes or disk
and how many stripes you use for backup, would have a
determination of how many tape mounts you might require
for a restore operation.
