I think you need 5.3 for the "fractional CPU LPAR". AIX 5.2 will run
on these machines, with 5.2's dynamic LPAR capability, using a whole
CPU granularity.

We will need AIX 5.3 to support LPAR capability of the box. We are an
IBM
business partner and a TotalStorage Solution Center. This is for our
showcase, but also one of the LPAR's will replace the B80 server
running
TSM. Fibre attached to a 3584 library with LTO2 drives. From what my
pServer-guy tells me, you need AIX 5.3 to support LPAR on these new
POWER5
servers.

So I guess I'm stuck with the B80 until TSM 5.3 in "2H04".

Ok, let's turn it round....
Do you NEED AIX 5.3?
TSM does not, we're not using symmetric multiprocessing just yet...
you'll be happy as always with your new AIX 5.2 power5.happier, infact,
as
the I/Os will be a lot more.
you won't catch me giving actual release dates other than our official
2H04 target GA for TSM 5.3. as for the subtle difference between "runs
on"
and "is supported on" it will suffice to know that we don't support
AIX
5.3 yet but future TSM releases will.
and that's as cryptic as IBM gets, uh?
:-)

Any more information...like release dates? The new pServers with
Power5
and
AIX5.2 start shipping next month. We have one on order to replace our
current B80 TSM server which goes off lease and support next month,
too.
Calling TSM support gets us nothing. Since AIX5.3 is not release,
"they"
won't comment on any support or future support. "They" say we have to
try
and get that through out local IBM/Tivoli channel reps.

Will the TSM 5.2.3.0 run on it?? Does ANY current release run on AIX
5.3????

Anybody know of the support situation with TSM on AIX5.3 running on a
power5 pSeries machine?
