Under Library and Drives / Tape alerts it appears there is a on/off
switch that can be set

Just a suggestion. Consult your library documentation and see if there's
a way to turn the TapeAlert service (or messages) off. TSM added
TapeAlert support with version 5.2, but I've not seen anyone using it.

(I suspect your tapes are just fine.)
