Not sure what you mean by "access the TSM SNMP functions".

The TSM SNMP support is designed to let TSM forward errors from the activity
log to a trap receiver.

I've seen this done with Netview and OpenView; there is a Window that stays
up on the Netview console that shows traps coming in from whatever machine
sends one; critical errors are red, minor errors yellow, etc. When you have
resolve the error then you can clear that message from the trap window.

I was told that What's UP Gold doesn't do this, but that was a while back.
If it does then you can forward the TSM error messages based on severity
level, or just forward selected messages that you are concerned with. You
can also write your own TSM queries via SELECT, and forward the results in
text as a trap.

BUT, as you said, the native Win2K dsmsnmp subagent is not what you use. You
have to get the subagent from IBM.
It used to be downloadable from the TSM site, but since CERN (?) reported
that SNMP is not hacker proof, you have to ask for it and sign a waiver.
Then there is some messy configuration to do.

And no, there is NOTHING clear about the SNMP support on Windows in the TSM
books. And I saw an announcement somewhere that TSM won't support it on
64bit Windows platforms, so I don't think there is a lot of future in it.

If you still want to pursue this, email me back and I"ll get you more
details.

Following the instructions in
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WG-20020522-DM01.htm
I was able to get SNMP resource monitoring functioning on my Win2K box
which acts as my TSM Server. Now I'd like to be able to access the TSM
SNMP functions through the subagent, but am somewhat at a loss. The
Admin Guide isn't very clear about a number of aspects of this process
but it suggests that it can't use the W2K SNMP agent. Has anyone tried
this interface for other than Netview? I'd like to use it with What's
Up Gold or MRTG and could use some guidance. I found nothing in the
ADSM archives or Redbooks ... perhaps I missed it?

TIA,
