Just to let you know......my problem has been resolved.

Except I changed two things (bad me), so I'm not sure which one really
resolved it. (actually they might both lead to the same resolution)

One was I updated the tape device drivers to the release just issued, 6024,
it includes a version specifically for TSM.

With the introduction of driver level 6.0.2.4 and thereafter, two versions
of the device driver
are made available, one that prohibits multiple opens on a single tape
drive and one that will
allow multiple opens on a single tape drive. Drivers that prohibit
multiple opens on a single
tape drive are indicated (when presented by the Windows Plug and Play
Device Manager during
device configuration) with the text string '(for Tivoli Storage
Manager)' in them. Drivers that
allow multiple opens on a tape drive do not have the text string '(for
Tivoli Storage Manager)'
in them. For example, if you have attached a IBM Ultrium II tape drive
to your server, you
   will see the following:
IBM ULTRIUM II TAPE DRIVE (for Tivoli Storage Manager)
         IBM ULTRIUM II TAPE DRIVE

The second thing I did was to disable the Removable Storage service. Per
TSM Support, this doesn't play well with Tivoli.

All is good today!

Thanks for all the assistance.

Deb Randolph

You might find this of interest, too. Again, just guessing....

I'm not an authority about hardware issues, but figured I'd offer up some
generic suggestions. Take them with a grain of salt...

- Are you getting any other ANRnnnn messages at the same time as the
ANR8355E? ANR8302E perhaps? Something with some sense info in it.

- Verify that all related firmware and non-TSM drivers (i.e. for library,
drives, adapter) are up to date. I don't know about your adapters, but you
might try poking around the IBM FTP site
ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage to check for latest drivers (perhaps
you are familiar with this already). I see a subdirectory for 3584 that
contains some fairly recent code, though I wouldn't be able to tell you
what to apply (hopefully you know this?)

Hi all.

I'm impatiently awaiting a call back from TSM Support.

I just installed a new TSM Server under Windows 2003 - Version 5.2.1.0
Along with it we installed a new IBM 3584 library with IBM LTO drives in
it.

The problem is that I cannot read, or restore any of the data that has
gone
off to tape.
Basically I cannot read the tapes at all.

I tried to do an Audit volume and received the following error:

09/16/2003 14:31:26 ANR8355E I/O error reading label for volume 800005
in

                       drive DRIVE4 (mt4.0.0.5).

09/16/2003 14:31:43 ANR8381E LTO volume 800005 could not be mounted in
drive
                       DRIVE4 (mt4.0.0.5).

09/16/2003 14:31:43 ANR1402W Mount request denied for volume 800005 -
volume
                       unavailable.

09/16/2003 14:31:43 ANR1410W Access mode for volume 800005 now set to

                       "unavailable".

09/16/2003 14:31:43 ANR2321W Audit volume process terminated for volume
800005
                       - storage media inaccessible.

09/16/2003 14:31:43 ANR0985I Process 25 for AUDIT VOLUME (REPAIR)
running
in
the BACKGROUND completed with completion state
FAILURE at
                       14:31:43.

I made the tape status Read/Write and still had the same issue.
We are using the latest drivers downloaded from the web.

Anything I can do while waiting for Tivoli to call?

Thanks,
Deb Randolph
