You should have two files, dsmcrash.log and dsmcrash.dmp. These can be
sent in to IBM support for analysis.
And yes indeed, this is a new feature (the dsmcrash.* files, not the crash
itself! :-)
The object is to provide for "first failure data capture" of crashes by
capturing the info ourselves the first time the crash occurs. Dr. Watson
itself does a nice job of this, but we would rather not rely on Dr. Watson
being (a) installed as the default debugger, and (b) configured to capture
the information we need.
Since the crash should not occur, I would recommend you open a problem
report with IBM, give them your problem scenario and send in the
dsmcrash.log and .dmp files so we can determine the problem.

Subject: tsm 5.1.6 and 5.2.02 wnt client crash
Good Afternoon
I upgraded 4 clients from 4.x to 5.1.6 on windows 2k machines and with
two of the clients all was well. With the other two the schedule
backups were failing with Dr Watson errors. The errors also showed
up with the dsmc incr commands and a backup using the gui.
I upgraded one of the failing boxes to 5.2.02 to see if the latest level
would fix the problem. To upgrade, the client was uninstalled using
start==>control panel==> add/remove programs
the client server was restarted.
the new client was installed.
the scheduler was not uninstalled but it was not started (nothing to
start) during the install of the 5.2 client
For a simple test a simple 22 byte text file was created in the d:\
directory.
A backup using the gui of just this file, which had never been backed up,
failed with the following written in the, new to me, file dsmcrash.log
which
points to the dump being written to the file dsmcrash.dmp.

Is anyone else seeing errors of this nature?
My first thought is that one of the old tsm files did not get replaced by
the
new tsm client. But I do not have the list of files and unique id info for
the files. Is this info available for us to look at?
It appears that tsm has come up with their own version of Dr Watson?
Can anyone from IBM talk about the new debugging info?
Thanks len
