I'm not sure that backupsets on 3590 are supported on Win2K - better double
check.
(The way I've done backup sets for Win2K, is to write the backupset to
devclass=file on the server, then burn a CD for the Win2K box to read.)

But if you think it's unlikely you will need the files again, just EXPORT.
Do it twice, to get to 2 copies, put 1 in the vault, then delete the
filespace and client.

If you need to get the data back, you only have to import the filespace you
want to restore from, not the whole client. That makes the restore process
easier, IMHO, than trying to restore a few files from a backupset.

Another advantage of EXPORT is that you can get ALL the client data,
including inactive files and archives. Backupsets only give you active
backup data.

Thanks to all for the advice

I'll look into Exporting and backup sets. I have done backup sets before,
but it would mean in the event of a machine going down that I'd have to
connect the NT / Win 2000 machines to a stand alone 3590 tape drive.

Thanks again

Farren

Hi,

In this case you can generate back-up sets in stead of creating archives.
This would be a work around. I would go for the trouble of restoring the
data on to a client which a would give the task of Archive holder and do
the
archives from there.

Regard,

Karel
