I commented out exclude.dir and ran backup again ,it just backups the
directories so it is working .
so to exlclude files I would use
exclude
and
exclude.dir to exclude directories ?

Thanks

When you use the other exclude syntax, is it backing up files? Or just the
directories? If just the directories, then the exclude IS working....
exclude by itself only excludes files. It does not exclude directories.
This is why test123 gets backed up. If you want, try populating test123
with files, then use the exclude instead of exclude.dir. You should see
test123 get backed up, but not the files.

exclude.dir prevents the client from traversing the excluded directory.

why its not working with other exclude syntax other members suggested ?
