Folks, be real careful. The latest Drive Firmware hosed us because the IGS
Contractors did not install the correct drivers on the hosts from the QLogic
site for the QLA2312 device aka QLA2340. Once we put on the correct HBA
drivers (IBM Certified) the problems went away. The results are real crazy,
long boot times, drives never notifying the host the tape is ready, etc.

That's what we had also. We have the Fibre tape Drives and problem was
related to that and McData or IBM FC Switches. New library/drive firmware
seems to have solved. Mainly was happening on the tape drive that the
Control Path was on.

What exactly tape dismount problem you have? Occasionally our library also
has problem to dismount the tape, we have to manually pull out the tape from
the drive, but we suspected the tape is the culprit.

The problem I had was the occasional tape dismount problem.
I haven't connected up for the Web Interface after upgrading firmware
(tempprary lack of Ethernet ports!) but there were some on 2460 or slightly
earlier. Problem was running at 100 MB Full duplex. I don't know if 3060
has fixed this.

Hi,

What problem do you have before upgrade to the firemware version 3060? We
are running version 2460 for library and the web interface is almost
unusable, I wonder whether the new firmware solve this prolem or just the
tape unmount problem?

I've had this installed about a month, seems to have solved
the problems.

Hi,

following a microcode upgrade, we have now version 28V0 for the drives and
3060 for the library. Very nice new web interface also, with "Power cycle"
function available for the drives.

This new microcode and a small hardware latch for the drives fixe a known
problem: IBM Ultrium 1 tapes got often unmount problems.

Yours,
