Ken,
I look after a large SAN running both AIX and W2K. here are my
thoughts:
You need as much RAM as possible. We currently have 1 GB of RAM in each
of our 5 W2K Library client.
You need a minimum of 2 drives to enable you to do migrations and
   reclamations
Below is our standard exclude for W2K but this needs modified/added too
depending on what applications the server is running:

Exclude "*:\tsmdata\...\*.dsm"
Exclude "*:\microsoft uam volume\...\*"
Exclude "*:\microsoft uam volume\...\*.*"
Exclude "*:\...\EA DATA. SF"
Exclude *:\...\pagefile.sys
Exclude *:\IBMBIO.COM
Exclude *:\IBMDOS.COM
Exclude *:\MSDOS.SYS
Exclude *:\IO.SYS
Exclude *:\...\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\...\*
Exclude *:\...\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\...\*.*
Exclude *:\...\Profiles\...\ntuser.dat*
Exclude *:\...\system32\Perflib*.dat
Exclude "*:\Documents and Settings\...\ntuser.dat.LOG"
Exclude "*:\Documents and Settings\...\ntuser.dat"
Exclude "*:\Documents and Settings\...\usrclass.dat.LOG"
Exclude "*:\Documents and Settings\...\usrclass.dat"
Exclude.dir *:\...\system32\wins
Exclude.dir *:\...\system32\LServer
Exclude.dir *:\...\system32\dhcp
Exclude.dir *:\...\system32\config
Exclude.dir *:\...\ntfrs\jet
Exclude.dir *:\...\ntds
Exclude.dir "*:\System Volume Information"
Exclude.dir "*:\...\Temporary Internet Files"
Exclude.dir *:\Recycled
Exclude.dir *:\Recycler

If you need anymore help give me a shout

I have 4 years experience running an AIX 3570 2-drive, 20-slot library.

I have the task of converting our LAN network of 30+ servers from running
Veritas Backup Exec to running TSM v5.1.

Thus, going to W2K TSM is "familiar", yet "different", with the W2K/NT OS.

Environ:

W2K, TSM server 5.1.6.3,
Win clients 5.1.5.15,
Back up ~ 10 W2K & NT servers each weekday,
TSM server is P3 500 w/384 MB memory,
14 HR backup window
100 MB/s switched LAN network
HP 718 autoloader, w/one-Drive, 8-slot DLT library
no DISKPOOL, backup to DLT tape directly (planning on a diskpool "real
soon").

W2K questions:
1) Do I need more memory in TSM server (only has 384 MB)?
Would more memory be used for faster operations?

2) Is there a set of standard include/exclude statements for W2K and NT OS
clients?
If so, please give reference to I can find them.

I have looked in the adsm.org archives and found some examples, but don't
know if there are an "official set" from Tivoli.

3) I am dealing with setting up a tape library w/only 1 tape drive.
I have read the W2K 5.1 Admin Guide on this subject and the adsm.org
emails on such.
Any guidance on running a single tape drive library is appreciated.

I have to use this single-drive autoloader for now, until we get an
increase in our IT budget for a new 2-3 drive library or such!
