One Redbook "Hints and Tips" that I have found particularly useful is:

I was in the same boat that you are.  This gave me some idea of possible 
queries.  I also have a copy of Andrew Raibeck's "ADSTAR Distributed Storage 
Manager:  Using the ADSM SQL Interface" which has a breakdown of all of the 
fields, in all of the tables, in the TSM database.  It is really handy to know 
what data you can query.
