Craig,
APAR IC36163 has been opened to deal with this issue. From the APAR:

Error Description:
The TSM Mac client may quit ("disappear") while attempting to
process a file or folder whose owner has a 'shortname' that
exceeds 10 characters (i.e. is 11 characters or more in length).

There is no error or crash log generated when this occurs.
Local Fix:
Two possibilities:

1) Change the user's shortname. Netinfo can be used to change
the information about the user. The user's home directory
will need to be renamed to match the new shortname. NOTE: The
System Preferences Accounts tool can not be used to modify
the user's shortname.

2) Exclude the files and folders owned by the user whose short
name is 11 characters or more in length. Use "exclude" to
exclude the files, and "exclude.dir" to exclude the folders.
NOTE: While this will prevent the client from shutting down,
it also prevents the owner's files and folders from being
backed up; and any existing backups of these objects will be
expired the next time incremental backup runs. Of the two
circumventions, #1 is preferred.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused by this error.

I have installed 5.1.5.13, but the problem still remains (even after a
restart). Is there a procedure I should follow? Delete prefs, etc?
Thanks!
