Exactly.  For example, we just brought up a very large Oracle db.
The database is defined by several hundred datafiles.  If you map out
the filesystems and logical volume structures, you have a structure
where every datafile is spread across every physical disk drive.
This is a SAP db, and runs a 90% random I/O pattern.  The performance
domain is for all Oracle datafiles is all disk drives.
