TSM does not parse the description for environment variables, so you can't
do this in the GUI or CLI when running in loop (interactive) mode. But
from the OS prompt, it should work fine:

C:\TSM\baclient>dsmc archive c:\test1\ -su=y -desc="%date% Test Archive"
Tivoli Storage Manager

The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked.
The command line is your friend.
"Good enough" is the enemy of excellence.

In the spirit of one of Andy's signature lines, I won't characterize
this as a 'dumb' question, but it sure feels like one!

On a W2K archive how do I enter a description that has the date as part
of it? I've tried %date and various other paramaters, but whatever I put
in becomes a literal part of the description. I know the default gives
you the date but with just Archive as a name.

It's obviously not the same as on AIX!

Thanks,
