Yes you are right .In that case you need to concentrate on h/w
compatibility.

We are humans and we don't have control on our results we can only do task
to best of our knowledge .

I will try this also on WEB page .If I find one I will let u know.

Thanks

pinni,

It is possible that the drivers are old, but since the lib was installed
there havnt been any fixes or changes on the machine, so its not logical
that it shouldnt work all of the sudden when I reboot.
I havent tried the drivers yet, and cant right now for the library is in
10.000 parts at the moment.
but if I cant figure out if the L16 board works with the L32, thats my next
goal.

thnx for your great help!
michelle (about to cry, but cant since I'm the only "man" here.lol)

Does this info help?I am just trying to send info to help!!I worked on 3.1
six years back with AIX4.2 ,now I am working with ACSLS which is different.

ANR2017I Administrator ADMIN issued command: DEFINE PATH
tsm 3584 srctype=server desttype=library device=/dev/smc0
online=yes
ANR8840E Unable to open device /dev/smc0 with error -1.
ANR8418E DEFINE PATH: An I/O error occurred while
accessing library 3584.

One reason found to cause this error is when old versions of Atape and Atldd
are being used to control the library and drives. If you are not using Atape
and Atldd, this solution does not apply. If you are, upgrade your Atape and
Atldd driver levels. They can be found at the following location:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/devdrvr/AIX/

After doing, so attempt to define the drive paths and see if the error
persists.

Thanks

Did u get this error?

"ANR8840E Unable to open device /dev/smc0 with error -1."

If yes then some thing is wrong with /dev/smc0 configuration.

I will try to get some more info on this .

The libray is not initialized under tsm because smc0 is not properly
configured, so an audit libray doesnt work does it?

yes I did, I set all the drives internal id's to 0.
did a config library from the panel and assigned the id's on the library
according to the book (drive1 scsi0 drive 2 scsi1 etc.) then I let it up to
AIX to cable select the id's with cfgmgr. The id's under AIX are correct.

Did you configure or reconfigure all the drives and especially the SCSI ID's
from the LIBRARY?

Hi all,

This morning I've changed a broken tapeunit (3570-C1A) in the library
(3575L32) and while I was at it put in an extra 3 drives.
AIX (4.3.2.0) had problems booting, and hung on LED 899.
Solved the problem by attaching the drives one by one on the scsi bus.
Now /dev/smc0 doesnt want to go through cfgmgr smoothly. when unhooking the
cable for a few seconds its being configured anyway. at least according to a
lscfg -Cs scsi.
It says its available. Now adsm (3.1) doesnt want to initilize the library.
I've tried everything. unhooking al drives but 1 (rmt0 or drive1) I've tried
other cabling, terminators and even screwed out the drive and replaced it by
another. 2 AIX guru's have looked at it but they havent got a clue either.

I'm beat, my backups havent been able to migrate, and backups are starting
at 00:00 hour!!!

michelle

Ps: richard, sorry for sending directly to u, but I'm really desperate.
