I wasn't so much pointing out the handling of the tape volume, that was as
expected; it was the console dying that was really strange.

Dale - You'll find a few instances of it in the ADSM-L archives.

I've accumulated what I have been able to find on the topic.
One thing to check is that the drive has at a recent microcode
level.  Beyond that, suspect a tape which would best be
relabeled and thus fully reinitialized.
