Could be anything - a switch somewhere between you and the H50, or even the
PCI bus in the Compaq.

First thing I would suggest is trying an FTP.
You can do that from a DOS window.
Take a fairly large file (at least 100MB, preferably larger) and FTP it to a
temp directory on your H50.
Do it 4-5 times until you get consistent timings.

Whatever throughput you get with FTP, is the best you can expect in that
configuration.
The TSM backup client or TDP can't ever do any FASTER than that, should be
somewhat slower.

If you get the same throughput with FTP, it's either a problem with your
network or your Compaq.

If you get better throughput with FTP, could be a TDP, Exchange, or TSM
server issue. (TSM server is the least likely problem, unless it is really
bogged down with other TSM work.)

Then try the same file just with the regular TSM backup client and see what
throughput you get.
If it's faster than the TDP, then the problem must be either the TDP or
Exchange.

Etc. Divide and conquer. Removing TSM from the equation is a good way to
diagnose throughput problems.

We are running TDP-E on a Compaq 4way Xeon w/4gb mem. We backup 40gb in
around 2.25 hrs, which comes out in the range of 5mb/s. We have run the
backup across the fast ethernet and also the gig-e connection, with no
apparent difference. The box does not show any cpu or memory hit during
the backup period.
Does anyone have experience with TDP MSExchgV2 (shows client version
4.2.2.0) that would suggest where the bottleneck might be? We are
coming into an IBM H50 4-way w/2gb memory, TSM 4.2.1.9, going to an SSA
diskpool.
