When I issue that command, I get the following out put which does say that
/mnt/stats is excluded. But if I run a gui backup, it doesn't appear to be.

For your 3.7.2 Solaris client, the simplest and most thorough thing to do
to check your Include-Exclude list is: dsmc show inclexcl
which in effect "compiles" the rules on your server and client to produce
a summary report.
