I'd like to know the following:

        1. DB layout. How many DB volumes? How many storagepool volumes?
        2. Is the DB RAIDed? RAID0, 1, 5, etc? Are the Storage pools RAIDed?
        3. Are the DB, LOG, and storagepools all separated on separate
physical disks?
        4. Would you be willing to run a performance trace for a sample
backup and send it to me? I can provide instructions if             you
need them.
        5. Filessytem for the DB, LOG, and storagepools. RAW, UFS??? Are
you using Veritas Volume Manager?
        6. If you use SELFTUNEBUFPOOLSIZE, your bufpoolsize will never be
more than 10% of real available memory. This
        may be too small. Are you seeing paging during your backup window?

reason is that I'm sure our backups are running quite slowly.

I'm thinking that TCPWindowsize may be worth looking at, and BUFPool size?
Our DB cache hit rate is rarely over 97%. We only have 1GB ram, so what is
an acceptable value to set for the BUFPollsize. I have set
SELFTunebufpoolsize. Also, what sort of impact does a 97% cache hit pct
have on backups?

Ok, so this is a low level question, but you people may help me to ask the
correct questions.
