Hello,
Just a suggestion..I didn't have the manual for Windows client, but looked
up Unix client manual. It had / after the directory.
Give this a try.

Below is the copy of DSM.OPT file for our SMS Server...As you can see I
have
excluded D:\SMS folder from backing up and yet in the morning when I look
at
the Log...it shows me this folder being backed up.....What is wrong here:
