Don't be shy about searching the ADSM-L archives, as topics like this one have 
been discussed
many times over the years.  The short answer is that you can do Move Data on 
the problem
volume to move off as much as possible, which will minimize the number of 
mounts needed
to do a Restore Volume on the remainder.  (You have backup storage pool 
volumes, we hope.)
If the data is years old and of little consequence, you can do a Delete 
Volume...Discard=Yes
which will usually dispose of the bad stuff.  (Query Content on the volume will 
show you
what's on the volume, and you can discuss with the client people.)
