Actually they call them "Tape Subsystem". Only 3570-B1A is called "Tape
Drive".
And the categorization is because they can be attached to 3575 "Tape
Library Dataservers".
Somewhat similar to the difference of 3590-x1A and 3590-x11.

Hi

Why IBM categorized Magstar MP 3570 C02/C12/C22 as Tape Drive.

Why not as Library? It has 2 drives, 20 slots, barcode reader, etc..  I
haven't worked on it, just came across reading Library and Tape drive
Specs.
