Petur,

this is a limitation of OS/400 - every SCSI tape adapter can address only
*one* target. No matter will it be used by TSM for OS/400 (actually ADSM
v3.1), ITSM for PASE or BRMS/400.
Thus for say 2 drive 3583 you will need *three* adapters - for the changer
and for each drive. Sorry for the disappointing answer. It might be really
better for your customer to pay for SAN Data Gateway module.
We went even further - for a customer we installed 3583 w/ SDG module, one
FC port is direct attached to iSeries while other is connected through SAN
fabric to TSM server and several MgSysSAN clients. And it works!

This is not a exact TSM case but we are having a extremely difficult time
finding anyone with authority in these matters within IBM.

We intend to install TSM with PASE on a new iSeris machine.

This is the only reference we found. on This white paper "IBM LTO Tape
Library Sharing White Paper V2"

"Since every iSeries server (AS/400) IOP/IAP has to have a library control
path, and the 3583 has only one library control path, only one iSeries
server (AS/400) SCSI bus can be attach to a SCSI 3583. LTO support for the
iSeries server (AS/400) is limited to one drive per SCSI bus. This means
that the a SCSI 3583 library attached to an iSeries server can only
contain
one tape drive. In contrast, the Fibre Channel 3583 can have up to six
tape
drives attached."

This customer is VERY close to a decision, but I will not order anything
until everything is crystal clear. That will save us a lot of grief in the
long run.

My questions

Please comment on the following statement from the white paper from a
iSeries point of view.

Is this a iSeries hardware or OS limitation?

Is there any chance this has changed in V5R2? (iSeris version, Not TSM)
