My guess is that the backups are not going to the management class that you
think. Or you did not activate the management class after the change to
absolute.

Subject: Daily Full Backup and Data Expiration

Dear all,

While configuring TSM 4.2.1 for daily full backup (requirement of customer),
I came across following problems:

1. Selective backup to c: d: drives is used firstly, but there are always a
little portion of data unable to expired to free the tapes to empty status
(reclaimation is not configured due to backup tapes are taken off-site after
each backup)

2. Incremental with absolute mode for c: d: drives is used instead according
to Tivoli specialist for the problem stated in (1). The #version to keep is
3 for each backup file and the retention period is 6 days. After
successfully backup all files (about 17,000 files) for 3 versions, I found
only 2,000 files were inspected and 200 files were backup for the 4th time
incremental (absolute) backup.

I suppose incremental (absolute) always do a full backup of the specified
drives, but not in this case. Does anyone has idea about this?

Best regards,
Christy
