At our last two general meetings, I posed the question "Who has a recovery
plan?" Now I think the question is more basic, "Who has tested restoring
files on their own systems?" We have verified on our test machines that
the backup/restore functions work on our supported platforms, but unless
local system administrators are familiar with the process on the machines
they are responsible for, our lab testing isn't of much help. This is a
short list of what every administrator with files backed up on either TSM
system should be able to do:

1. Restore an active file, directory, or filespace (i.e., drive or folder
or logical volume, depending on your platform)
2. Restore a previous version of a file, directory, or filespace.
3. Do a point-in-time restore.
4. Move a file, directory, or filespace to another machine (of the same
platform type).

In addition, administrators should be familiar with both the Command Line
and GUI versions on their platforms. If the WebClient is installed, they
should be familiar with that also.

We will be having a general meeting later this month, when I will be asking
these questions again.
