Consider yourself lucky!!

It took me 92 hours (almost 4 days) to restore a (ONE) 220k file from a
backupset (we are STILL working that one with TSM support). I can't tell you
how many times that I have heard "Restore backupset is not really designed
to restore specific files" for TSM support in the last couple of weeks.

The next restore took 8 days before it finally failed.

John stated a great text book reply that anyone considering using backupsets
should follow. I considered these facts before using backupsets and also
tested full and individual file restores with expected results.

Now in my hour of need, I am not getting expected results. No one can tell
me that it takes 92 hours for a 3584 with fiber channel drives to read a LTO
tape, no matter how large or small the block size is.

But as I said, we are still working this with support, just wanted to vent a
little.

Miguel,

Restore backupset is not really designed to retore specific files
A backupset is a self contained object, desined for restore as a whole
independent of the database. The database does not hold any information on
the
location of individual files.
So when you are looking fto restore an individual file the backupset
tape/tapes
have to be read to find it.

John
