I recently installed server version 4.2.1.15 on AIX 4.3.3 (p660). The tape
system is a 3581 autoloader with 1 3580 (LTO) drive. Everything ran fine
for about a week then I started getting ANR8300E messages -

ANR8300E I/O error on library 3581LIB (OP=00006C03, CC=-1,
 KEY=09, ASC=FF, ASCQ=29, SENSE=70.00.09.00.00.00.01.0A.0-
 0.00.00.00.FF.29.00.00.00.00., Description=An
undetermined error has occurred). Refer to Appendix D in
the 'Messages' manual for recommended action.

The first error occurred trying to backup a storage pool. I was able to
reset the autoloader and drive, but now when just about any tape processing
runs, the tape gets stuck on the picker. I'm able to move the tape back to
its slot using tapeutil, but now checkin, label, audit library, all generate
the ANR8300E message. What's strange is I can audit an individual data
tape (tape gets mounted, read and dismounted properly), but when I run a
process like audit library, the first tape it tries to load (which happens
to be scratch) generates the 8300 message and the tape gets stuck on the
picker.

The firmware for the drive and autoloader were upgraded to the latest level
(as of about a month ago) before I installed TSM. Has anyone experienced
anything similar?

Thanks,
Bill Zehnder
