Hi,
 Thx for the response. I should have posted a more complete scenario to
begin with:
* 3 filesystems of sysback backups = 700GB of data

Answer: The amount of data to archive is not a problem, as far as TSM 
goes. However, using a tape technique with a fairly large capacity would 
be recommended. For example, if you're using small tapes, such as 3570 MP, 
700GB of data would require about 45 tapes. Handling theese tapes wouldn't 
be easy.

* Need to 'store to tape' for archive/retreival purposes to "free up"
disk space

Answer: Archive/Retrieval is, as you propose, the best metod for freeing 
up disk space.

* Need to take directly to tape to avoid diskpools and cluttering them up

Answer: Shouldn't be any problems sending data directly to tape. Simplest 
way is to have your archive copy group point directly to tape pool.

* Need to KNOW that the archive tapes are recoverable

Answer: No problems doing a retrieve from the archive tapes. However, this 
is not a disaster recovery solution, you will still need to have you're 
TSM server up and running, and aware of the archive tapes.

  * Need to ensure that the process utilized is "good/sound" BECAUSE
these filesystems are to be deleted upon complete backups

Answer: The reliability is 99%. However, you should have theese tapes 
copied to your normal disaster pool(copypool), as there are no other media 
protection. If one of the archive tapes would to be destroyed, or 
unreadable, you have to have a copy in your copypool to be able to restore 
the tape.

  * What happens to the archive tapes upon filesystem deletion??? this
is my greatest concern!!!

Answer: Nothing. Archive tapes doesn't have the same kind of expiration as 
normal backup tapes. However, you must set the retention period to 
unlimited, as the default value in the copygroup is 365 days, which would 
mean that the tapes would expire after 365 days. With unlimited, the tapes 
will never expire.

  * Is the methodology I have implemented OK???

Answer: Yes
