Greetings, all.

We run TSM at a central site, with moderate numbers of clients in remote
locations. For some types of data, it is becoming a little scary to have to
depend on the network to do restoration, just because of the size of the
restore and the size of the pipe. So I'm looking at backupsets as a
transmission method; never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full
of 9-tracks.

What I envision is cutting backupsets in e.g. DVD-ROM, and handing those over
to the client. But I'm wondering: On what media, on what platforms, are you
successfully using backupsets? What's my best bet for new devices to hook up
to my AIX box to serve this new publishing method?

I'm considering CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, and possibly several tape technologies,
probably starting with 8mm. But I don't really even know what's the hot tape
tech outside of our high-end managed storage millieu.

Anyone got a clue they can toss my way?
