Re: Still have tape problems

Geoff,
Mark the tapes as readonly. I had bunches of errors like you describe. I
maked the tapes to reado and they stopped. But I wasn't out of the water
yet. I then had to do move data for each tape, checkoout, delete volume,
and relabel to get them to go for good. Are you getting any "No drives
abailable" when there clearly are free drives?

This morning I noticed reclamation still going on. I was able to halt one
of
the processes but not the other so I decided to halt TSM. During startup I
saw the messages below:
ANR8455E Volume U00160 could not be located during audit of library
3494LIB.
Volume has been removed from the library inventory.
ANR8455E Volume U01274 could not be located during audit of library
3494LIB.
Volume has been removed from the library inventory.
Now the strange part is when I query the log for what's gone on with U00160
here is what comes back. I don't understand why it does not show it
mounting
in rmt2 yet shows a dismount failure.
11/03/01 08:30:45 ANR1228I Removable volume U00160 is required for

The other volume is just as strange I guess. It also shows a dismount
failure for rmt2 yet no mount.

I noticed this the other night and put the volume available again since it
is in the library. Next time it had to access here is what happened:

Has anyone seen anything like this before? I've got the dreaded AIX
4.3.3/TSM 4.2.1.6/3494 library combination. After installing the latest fix
I was hoping things would get better. Looks like not everything is working
yet.
