I agree with Jeff -- if your clients are setup for 100 FD, you need to
make sure the ports they are connected to on the switch are also 100 FD.

The rate below is 163 KB/sec.

I would suspect alignment issues. Check the switch/hub for alignment
errors. Make sure all switch ports are also hard-coded to 100FD.

Go back to the basics. Check FTP throughput. Narrow it to a network
issue
and trouble shoot it as one.

MTU size when I checked is limited to 1500 on Cisco equipment. Not
sure if
this has changed recently, but if the switch has to break things down,
there
isn't any gain in changing it (I would suspect).

As a network issue, try a different type network card, reinstall the
driver,
check NT tuning parameters. I have seen all of these cause issues.

        Chad,
Are you sure that your backup is going across the GIG e

        Hey Guys,

Thanks for the help. I add the following changes to my dsm.opt
file.

        LARGECOMmbuffers Yes
        TCPBuffsize 31
        TCPNodelay Yes
        TCPWindowsize 63

Still not much of a change. Does any one have any other
Ideas. I
have
attached some information from dsmsched.log info to this post.
This
will
show you the network transfer rate. I guess I could just put a
sniffer on
this box and see what its doing. But the main point is I have
10
servers
just like this one. Is there any settings I check on the AIX
box?

Actually on NT 4.0 make this line read:

           TCPWindowsize 63

        Hello,

I have 10 NT 4.0 clients backing up to a AIX TSM Server running
version
3.7.2.4. These NT clients are configured to backup to a GIG E
card
in
        the
AIX server (should be plenty fast enough). Each client is
setup for
100
        mb
Full duplex on their network card. No auto-negotiate. My
clients
are
getting very poor network performance. Lets take one clients
        unparticular.
It backs up about 15 GB a night but only gets a Aggregate
Transfer
Rate
        of
50.25 KB/second. The Network Transfer rate is about 4,000
KB/second.
        Is
there anyway for me to get a higher Aggregate rate? I need
these
        machines
to backup faster. Can I tweak MTU setting or something for
NT? Any
        help is
greatly appreciated. Below is my option file from 1 of my
clients.
