3494 Produces SNMP traps.  We use Tivoli to monitor these.  You could use 
netview, HPOV or whatever else you have in house.
If you need freeware try Scotty.

        Does anyone have a script to monitor to 3494 and/or 3584 library, or
should I just go ahead and write one?
