Re: Backupsets

I've used mksysb's in the past when doing DR testing offsite. The problem
I had with them was the extra two hours it took for the mksysb to complete.
The last time we tested (in August), I just installed TSM server over the
AIX that the DR site had installed for us... this worked pretty well,
except formatting and restoring the TSM DB still took a few hours. What I
am wondering now is, if there is any advantage to installing a TSM
*client* rather than *server*, then doing a backupset restore to get the
"personalization" of the TSM server machine, including the TSM server
install. Of course, I'd still have to restore the TSM DB, but maybe the
format time would be saved. Just trying to improve the process.

You can use it WITH a mksysb tape, use the mksysb tape to restore OS, TSM
Client and settings. (rootvg) and use the backupsets to restore all the
other vg's and it's data.
I think nothing can replace a mksysb, it's bootable, all the software in
the
rootvg, all settings and users ect. ideal.
