Hello fellow TSM'rs:

I am having major problems with our new TSM servers that maybe someone can
help.

We have 2-E450 sun boxes running Solaris 8 and TSM 4.2.01 server, 2-ADIC
Scalar 1000 libraries with 12 drives.  We also have 2 TSM servers running
Solaris 6 and ATL Libraries, that run fine.  We have been having problems
with major session hang ups with the servers that carry the ADIC library and
TSM 4.2.01.

Mainly when a tape is either already mounted or waiting to be mounted, in
some cases, it is a combination of both.  It is not any 1 client causing the
issue. It seems to vary. We may run fine for a few days and then it happens
again.  There is also not 1 drive or 1 tape that is the cause, from what we
have been able to see as I had it hang one time on a client that was running
by himself and then hung, then we recycled the application, it started to
backup again, it mounted the same tape in the same drive and all was fine.

We have also seen where it will sit with a tape mounted for about 30 minutes
or so and then all the sudden start writing to the tape.  I have also had a
few times where a client was running a backup and nothing else at all was
running, all 4 tapes for this client were mounted <the client was a TDP for
Oracle client> and it sat for over 4 hours and did nothing with the tapes.
When we truss the DSMSERV process and grep for the client - all we get is a
bunch of read statements. I am at a loss at this point and have no idea what
to do. Can anyone please help? This has been going on for weeks with us
having good days and bad days. I would try going back to an older version of
TSM, just to see what happens, but was told that I would not be able to.

the situation here is that db7 was writing to a tape and then db24 came
along to wait for a tape and that was it, everything got hung.
