Do a "q vol E000003 f=d" and see if the volume is flagged unavailable.
This will happen from time to time if an error is encountered during a
read or write operation. The TSM server doesn't know whether the drive
or tape are the source of the problem, so it typically will mark both
unavailable - or at least the tape, so the admin can investigate. If
it's flagged unavailable, then I'd recommend flagging it read only with
an "upd vol E0000003 acc=reado" so that further writes aren't attempted,
yet valid data can be retrieved. Then, once you move the data off that
volume you can change to read/write and test the media for defects.
