our site is similar. I have a 3570-six drives, but hundreds of cartridges. I
back up well over 100GB a day. I'm still using ADSM 3.1, although a 4.1 upgrade
is planned.
So, your current tape drives are fine.
You do not HAVE to upgrade ADSM, but you should to get support.
Other issues:
-you need to buy 300-400 more cartridges
-start sending tapes offsite daily
-start sending tapes offsite daily
-get a disk storage pool, large enough to hold one days incremental -get a disk
storage pool, large enough to hold one days incremental backups (ie 150 GB AT
LEAST)

-get more tape drives (4 or 6 in total) - needed for reclamation and fault
tolerance

-don't put more than 2 drives per SCSI card (bus if you can help it)
-make sure you are using the RED 7GB tapes

We have ADSM Server for AIX-RS/6000 - Version 3, Release 1, Level 2.40 using
Magstar 3570 with two drives [total 19 carriages]
Currently we have 60 GB of incremental data, to backup daily. Because of not
having enough space on 3570 we have limited the backup to 7 version only.
Management is asking to automate the whole company's backup process, and
asking me to come up with a right solution.
Now we will be talking of backing up almost 150 GB of daily incremental,
with 30 version. Also we need to assign some libraries for archiving.
Does anybody have almost similar site?
Which tape drive should I recommend?
Do I need to upgrade ADSM?
Any other issues to consider?
If you are aware of any study cases on Internet of a similar case, please
recommend it.
