I've been using an HP 9200-series CD-burner along with GNU
mkisofs/cdrecord with pretty good success.
The README that you alude to in you message makes reference to boot
problems with CHRP boxes...pay attention to that. With the latest
versions of the the necessary bff's this is supposedly fixxed, but I
still ran into a problem when using the latest version of mkisofs.
