Hi All,
Hi All,
I have a small number of servers and am re-evaluating my back-up
solution. I like what I have read about Tivoli Storage Manager. It seems

like a good fit for me and allows for future growth.

I have a question about tape vaulting. If I understand it correctly,
taking tapes offsite is a manual process and I really don't want to be
spending a lot of time on this every day. I know Tivoli offers another
product, DRM, to automate this, but it's a bit pricey for my needs. How

do others handle this?

Thanks,

Our offsite copies are run from a schedule or at the end of another process
(depending on if the time is fixed or dependant). Daily we checkout all the
offsite and database (adsm db) backups, along with a copy of device
configuration etc.. files for the server and store them offsite.

Prior to the normal workday we have scripts which eval each storage pool
offsite copies to determine if they meet the criteria to return onsite, if
so then a email is generated for each storage pool of any tapes that are to
be returned onsite.

A operator can use the menu program to checkout and bring the offsite
returns back from the emails. (though we do not have the budget for a
operator :( )

Overall time spent daily changing tapes (without any other problems) 15-30
minutes. Note: we have 180G daily that we take offsite.

Hope this is a help.

Sincerely,
