Jerry,

We have been using Seagate Backup Exec 7.1 to backup our 25G Exchange database
to ADSM 3.1 for several years. We are happy with both backup and restore,
except the fact that it takes over 4 hours to restore the entire datebase.
But we are basically on our own. Support is terrible. We could never get
anyone at Seagate to help with problems we are STILL having. There are a lot
of finger pointing between ADSM and Seagate support.

Seagate backup Exec became Veritas Backup Exec, and natually we want to find
out if Veritas Backup Exec 8.0 works with TSM 3.7. We had to convince the
Veritas salesrep that yes you do sell the ADSM option because we are running
it. After digging up the info he could only find references to ADSM V3.1.
Nothing is said about TSM. The quote he gave us for the Backup Exec 8.0
ADSM option is $8000. Considering that the entire Veritas Backup Exec
package (w/o ADSM) is only around $2500, I have a feeling that Veritas is
going to phase out the ADSM option.

We are seriously looking into running TDP for Exchange to replace Seagate
Backup Exec when we upgrade to TSM 3.7. The TDP license is around $700,
and we only need 3 licenses. Best of all, one vendor supports both products.
