I don't know about the first question, but the second is definitely
what you put as the answer for the first question.

Can 4.1 clients run against a 3.1 server?
Probably yes, but it's NOT supported!

Hi,

running a 3.1.2.57 server and a wide mix of clients (even version 2.1)
and planning to upgrade to 3.7 or directly to 4.1, raises a number of
compatibility questions, some of which I do not find answered in the
publications:

- Can 2.1 and 3.1 clients run against a 4.1 server?

- Can 4.1 clients run against a 3.1 server?
