Hi Ken,

Been there, did that.  It may be easier than you think.  This is all predicated
on having SSA disks, but here's what I did:
1. Made sure all ADSM 'space' was on ssa, in it's own VG.  (this includes vol
hist, device config, scripts...in short anything needed to run ADSM apart from
the binaries and dsmserv.opt)
2. Looped SSA disk between adapters on BOTH machines.
3. Installed same level software on target box (ADSM, tape drivers, etc).
4. Made sure all clients used DNS resolving, and they pointed to the name of the
ADSMSERVER and  *NOT* a hostname.

Then on move day:
1. Stop ADSM on BOTH machines.
2. Umount FS and exportvg from old machine
3. Move tapedrive SCSI connections, and run cfgmgr on new box
4. Importvg on new machine
5. FTP dsmserv.opt from old to new box
6. Update DNS entry for the ADSMSERVER with new IP
7. Start ADSM on new box
8. Delete/define tape drives, as the /dev/rmt numbers changed.

Here's the fun part:  move day was a 20 min outage!

We are moving our ADSM environment  from IBM AIX RS6000 H50s to IBM AIX RS6000
H70 servers (need more memory/speed/disk space-don't we all !!!!).

I need to know how to move the ADSM environment (3.1.2.40)

We are moving our Magstar 3570 tape system to the new servers also.

The only thing we are backing up with ADSM is the AIX files and our Oracle
DB/files. No other network clients are involved.

Can I just copy our ADSM DB tape into the new ADSM server directly?

Any help in this matter would be appreciated.
