Hi all

I posted a problem to the list a while back regarding errors I was getting when
performing a PIT restore and hardlinks.

As a result Tivoli have created an APAR describing the defect. I believe it
applies to all Unix platforms.

Regards

Gavin

  ERROR DESCRIPTION:
ADSM client may attempt to create a hardlink to a file prior to
creating the directory that contains that hardlink during
point in time restores. The problem can be seen in the command
line client output or schedule log as:
06/23/00 11:47:28 HandleHardLink: System link command
         failed, rc=-1
     First alias: /a/etc/init.d/ANNOUNCE
     Restoring alias: /a/etc/rc0.d/K00ANNOUNCE

The problem manifests itself under the following conditions:
  1. Restore is point in time.
  2. Restore is to a new location.
  3. The hardlinked files are in different directories in the same
     restore operation

  LOCAL FIX:
Re-run the restore or a subset of the restore. The required
directories will have been created during the first restore
which should allow the restore of the Hardlinks complete
  successfully on the second restore
