The library firmware is an EPROM that your CE must order and install.  I
have two 3575-L18's and one L12, all running version 2.19 of the library
code.  You can display this via the front panel.  If the barcode reader is
not working, you should place a service call, as something is most likely
either mis-alligned, or broken.

What happens if you run "audit library lib3575 checklabel=barcode"?

If you get a bunch of "Unable to read barcode for tape blah, loading in
drive..." messages, this is an indication that the library itself could
not read the barcodes when it did it's "INIT ELEMENT STATUS", and
therefore does not have all the barcode stored.

I once had a case on one of my 3575's where the laser did not shutoff when
not in use, buring it out, leaving me without a barcode reader until
the laser was replaced...
