I think we're wondering at this point of who at your company
chose to acquire TSM and how they intended to use it...

In any case: What *SM calls an "incremental" backup is *always*
incremental.  Your first backup naturally backs everything up
because it is incremental with a base of nothing, and then each
further incremental picks up new data.

*SM is NOT media-oriented: that is old-school backup stuff.
Each incremental for a given client keeps adding to a tape volume
and then goes on to other volumes.  You don't really care what
tapes the data is on - the *SM db keeps track of that.  In a
restoral, you tell it what file system objects you want back, and
it goes after the tapes it needs to accomplish the task.
