Angel - another alternative if you are on TSM 3.7 is to generate a backup
set. This will copy all the ACTIVE backup files onto sequential media (disk
or tape) - you could then copy it onto CD if you want. You can specify a
retention period for the set in the server, but if you are using a CD, you
could then restore it any time, even after the client node is deleted. You
just need a same OS client with TSM backup-client (no connection to the TSM
server required - LAN-free restore), load the CD and restore any or all
files you want. Or, you can leave the backup set on the server media and
also restore it from the server - however I'm not sure if this works if
you've deleted the client node. Check out the TSM 3.7 redbook for more info
or look up the GENERATE BACKUPSET (server) and RESTORE BACKUPSET (client)
commands in the 3.7 manuals. It's a good reason to upgrade to 3.7.

Cheers, Charlotte
