This isn't TSM-specific however since it sounds like many more people are
now playing with SAN's, you might be interested in this project at the
ITSO.

Subject: Residency Announcement: GS-0704 SAN Planning and Implementation
      Services Workshop

Residency Announcement: GS-0704 SAN Planning and Implementation Services
Workshop

Benefits to Resident: The workshop creation will provide the resident with
the opportunity to acquire a broad range of SAN skills that could be used
in a wide range of SAN engagements. This would include sales, marketing,
technical support, and design and consultancy engagements. It provides the
opportunity for self-motivated professionals to be innovative in their use
of the ITSO SAN lab, gather hands-on experience, acquire new skills, and to
create a high quality workshop and guide that will be delivered in the
major geographies worldwide. The topics will include analyzing the current
storage infrastructure, SAN design considerations, implementation, testing,
and documenting the SAN environment. During the course of the residency it
is likely that the residents will use the opportunity to forge new working
relationships with developers, both IBM and OEM, and a wide range of
professionals employed in the SAN arena.

This residency begins 05 Jun 2000, ends 07 Jul 2000 (5 weeks), and requires
3 residents.

Description: This residency will produce a workshop and student guide
outlining the planning and implementation processes associated with the
creation of the SAN environment. The focus will be on the connectivity
requirements to prepare for the introduction of hardware and software
products that support the SAN initiative. This will involve the use of the
ITSO SAN laboratory and the consolidation of information from previous ITSO
materials, and IBM and OEM documentation.

Objectives: The primary focus is to create the material associated with an
ITSO workshop and will include the material that was generated in
residencies ST-0527 and ST-0533. However, there will be opportunities to
use the SAN laboratory to test out and implement scenarios involving the
use of switches, routers, and gateways, as well as the associated hardware
and software configuration tools.

This residency is suitable for Customers, Business Partners, and IBMers.

A basic requirement for all residents is the ability to read and clearly
express concepts and procedures in common English.

Resident Prerequisites: This residency calls for self-motivated
professionals that are innovative in their use of SAN related material from
many sources. Experience in creating technical presentations or educational
material would benefit this residency. However, a strong understanding of
SAN concepts, as well as SAN customer requirements and implementation, is
just as important. The skills mix of the team will cover all these aspects,
as it is unusual to find all the skills in one person.

Skill levels below are from 5 to 1, where 5 = expert skill and 1 = no
skill.

You personally do not have to have all of these skills to be considered a
good candidate for this residency. The project leader will match your
skills with that of the other nominations to put together the best team
possible.

ITSO will pay approved business travel and living expenses for residency
participants based on IBM guidelines and Travel policy. Complete
reimbursement guidelines will be provided in the ITSO Residency Acceptance
Letter. For more detailed information about ITSO and about ITSO
residencies, see http://www.redbooks.ibm.com.

Details of these and other residencies can be found on the IBM Intranet at
http://w3.itso.ibm.com.

Further information about Redbooks can be found at
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com.

For regular updates about ITSO activities you can register for our Mailing
List at http://w3.itso.ibm.com.

Business Partners who are pre-registered for IBM's PartnerInfo site on the
IBM Extranet can use it to see current residency announcements and submit
nominations online. For more information about registering for
PartnerInfo, Business Partners should see http://www.ibm.com/PartnerInfo
and their IBM representative.

Important: Even if you cannot be a resident now, perhaps you could provide
or point us to appropriate, already-existing materials as potential input
to our development efforts. We would appreciate your help in identifying
any useful material that can be expanded, referenced, or included as is.
If the material significantly contributes to the produced redbook, we will
acknowledge your assistance and may even name the creator as a contributing
author. We believe that your help will leverage the value of the
already-existing materials and will result in better redbooks produced in
shorter cycle times.

The ITSO Residency program has been honed over many years to provide the
maximum benefit to residents and their businesses. IBM organizations,
Business Partners, and customers that have provided residents report that
the returning employee has gained significant new skills to enable them to
support IBM's latest products. These skills can be employed either
directly for services generation or indirectly in technical support of the
sales effort. Furthermore, the contacts made by the resident within the
development community and with the other residents are invaluable in
keeping these skills up-to-date.
