Hmmm - I see your point.

What if you restored the database from the 390 to the AIX box?
390: ba da devcl=tape vol=a0001
     checkout libvol a0001
aix: checkin libvol a0001
     dsmserv restore db vol=a0001
The database would have references to all the tapes in the library, by
tape number.  You could either hook up the ols library to AIX, or check
the tapes in to the new library (if you're buying a new library along
with your AIX box...)

Just a thought - I've never done this but don't imm'y see why it
wouldn't work.
