We went to two and then to three.  We did it the way you said.  We had to
make new disk pools and new tape pools.  We then switched some clients to
the new pool.  The data in the old pool slowly disappeared, well most of it
anyway.  Say a file never gets changed after it is in tapepool1.  Now unless
you do an absolute backup of this file it will remain in tapepool1 forever.
We just left them and did not worry about it.
