Well, I guess technically you could.  All you would have to do is write code
to take the data out of the storage pool, compress it and put it back.  Just
a simple matter of programming as my engineers tell me all the time!
Actually the coding is probably pretty easy.  The design is real hard,
though.

(tongue firmly planted in cheek.  After a database dump and load I needed a
little release.)
